Let’s Talk about a topic, We do not pay enough attention to! TIGGER WARNINGS

✨ Let’s Talk About Trigger Warnings (Because Not Every Surprise Is a Good One) Okay… real talk for a minute. We all love getting lost in a good book. The kind where you’re curled up, ignoring your responsibilities, maybe blushing a little and fully invested. But sometimes… a book hits you with something you were not ready for. And not in a fun, plot-twist kind of way. And that’s exactly why I want to talk about trigger warnings.

So what are trigger warnings?

They’re basically just a heads-up. Nothing dramatic. Nothing complicated. Just a simple “hey, this book includes some heavier stuff” so you can decide if you’re in the right headspace for it. That’s it.

Why I care about them?

Here’s the thing—reading is supposed to feel good. It’s our escape. Our cozy time. Our little moment to disconnect from everything else going on in life. And when something heavy comes out of nowhere? It can completely pull you out of that space. Especially in spicy books (you know I love those ), because sometimes you go in expecting fun, tension, chemistry… and then boom—there’s a darker element you didn’t see coming.

That doesn’t mean the book is bad. It just means maybe you would’ve liked a little warning first.

Do trigger warnings ruin the story?

I hear this all the time… and honestly? No. Knowing a topic is in a book is not the same as knowing how it plays out. You’re not ruining the story—you’re just giving yourself the choice. And I’m a big believer in that. Your reading experience is YOURS.You get to decide how you read.

If you want to:

Check every trigger warning ✔️

Ignore them completely ✔️

DNF a book halfway through ✔️

Save it for another time ✔️

All of that is valid. There’s no prize for pushing through something that doesn’t feel good.

From me to you. With One Hand Book Club with Carrie, I want this to feel like a safe space.

Yes, we’re here for the spice

Yes, we’re here for the fun

But we’re also here to feel comfortable, respected, and in control of what we’re consuming.Because you deserve that.

Tell me your take, Do you look at trigger warnings before starting a book Or do you just dive in and see what happens?

No judgment either way—I just love hearing how other people read.
